Refer to a textbook diagram of the
uterine cycle (Junqueira’s Histology 14e: page 475), and study the
table below to review how the stages of the uterine (menstrual)
cycle correlate with follicular development in the ovary.
Using the slides below, examine
specimens of uterus in different stages of the menstrual cycle. These slides do not show distinct
differences between early and late in either the proliferative or
the secretory phases. At each stage identify:
- The thickness of the endometrium (the basal and
functional layers are also more easily distinguished here)
- The
presence or absence of mitotic figures,
- The appearance of the glands
and secretory cells,
- The nature of the surface epithelium and
the vascular supply.
Now for the
cervix and vagina. |
