Stratified cuboidal to stratified columnar epithelium

This epithelial type is not common and is found primarily in the largest ducts of salivary glands and also in ducts of the eccrine sweat glands. This epithelium has lining and secretory functions.

    • Examine the images below and find these ducts (arrows) in specimens of the submandibular gland and skin. The epithelium of these ducts consists of 2 or 3 layers of cuboidal or low columnar cells.

    Transitional epithelium (urothelium) is next.
